Adolescent Psychotherapy
I genuinely enjoy working with adolescents. This can be such an amazing time in a person’s life, and also an incredibly challenging one. I think that if adolescents are able to engage in the process of therapy at this time, they learn things about themselves, other people and relationships that can help them for years to come. I will use talk therapy, as well as the use of some games. Adolescents will generally wish for more privacy in therapy, and as such, our meetings will mostly be individual. As parents, I recognize that your role in your adolescent’s life is crucial and we will also talk together about what will and will not be shared from these meetings, outside of the clear legal standards of confidentiality.
Confidentiality is the cornerstone to any effective treatment and is important aspect of a psychologist's code of ethics. As parents, I recognize that your role in your adolescent’s life is crucial and balancing your involvement is important. At the outset of any therapy with an adolescent, we will establish a framework for communication that feels comfortable to each family member. Allowing an adolescent a space in which he or she can truly speak freely can be a powerful experience.
Areas of difficulty that I see in working with adolescent include stress and anxiety, particularly related to academics, mood issues, concerns with peer and family relationships.
